Damn slack today.
Finally wkend liao, i was looking forward to it. So sian today, when got no samples there's nothing to do except to slack. I tink half the time i'm slacking off. Basically tis wk is not as interesting as histopathology cos only c urine, stool n blood. Then i practically do the same thing everyday. I only get to learn something new when Yani, one of the staff is there. I like the way she explains things but also quite stress when she say she will ask me again. Dunno y Ms Phoon still haven come visit us when other LOs had already visit them. Nxt wk goin to microbiology shld be better than tis wk. Heard tat got quite a lot of interesting things to c. Honestly i dunno if i can picture myself doin tis for the nxt 40 years. If i'm goin to place dipstick in urine everyday, i would rather quit my job. But i dun mind if i was doin histopathology maybe bcos it's something different everyday. The results r goin to release on thur. As it nears i get more uneasy. I jus wish tat all goes well.

Still goin strong.
Tis wk wasn't tat bad as i expected n not as dull as wat Sue Sue said. Basically i still face urine everyday afterall my main job is to test the urine samples. But i also get to c slides, do other tests n handle stool samples. (In case u dunno, stool is the more elegant word for shit) The part abt looking under the microscope is interesting as can c crystals which r in unique shape. The part i hate is to identify the things in the slide. Cos some things can look very similar n can get mix up. Like today they ask me to count the red blood cell, white blood cell n epithelial cell(skin cell) in the urine. Somehow my count is always more than wat they count. I guess my differentiation skill is not tat gd. I prefer to do the test rather than counting the cells under the microscope. Dunno y the ppl there dislike doin test for stool sample. Ok it's disgusting but i dun tink it's as smelly as those fomalin soaked tissues i encounter in histopathology. They manage to let me do some of the test for stool sample. All i can say is some stool sample damn horrible. One of them looks like dark green, a bit greyish in colour then a bit watery. Then got another one whose colour is so black like charcoal. Lucky never receive any stool sample tat is wrapped in toilet paper or sent in a yogurt container. So far the ppl here quite nice, i first tot they hard to get along cos some of their faces not very friendly. But i learn not to judge a book by its cover. They quite willing to teach then sometimes they even more relaxed than me. Haha. I tink i'll be busy till sch reopen but i hope can squeeze in a few gatherings here n there bah. Especially got holidays n birthday comin up.

Eye-opening experience.
Warning: Wat i write below may be disgusting n if u can't handle gross stuff, either dun read or stop eating any food when u read this. My 4 days at histopathology lab is really different frm wat i experience in sch. I guess mainly is because i haven take the histology module n most of things r not familiar to me. Wat i do everyday is almost the same as wat i wrote on the previous entry but now the staff got let me handle some non-gynaecological samples like urine and stuff. I'm supposed to make slides of the samples. Personally i not very confident to say tat wat i did is good lor but i jus did wat i was taught n do it the same way. Today i got to cut some tissues. Manage to cut appendix, tonsils, gall bladder n breast lump. The appendix was already cut so is like i jus cut the already cut portion. The appendix i get to c on tuesday was uncut and it looks like cooked sotong. A bit purplish-black looking n it's like curled up as it was congested. Then the tonsil looks like oyster lor, lucky i dun eat them. The gall bladder looks a bit green but it was also cut already so its original form i didn't get to c. The breast lump hor, looks like the macdonald's hotcakes the margarine, a bit oily-looking then yellowish in colour. So it's like i got some practice on cutting tissues when i'm here even though the staff are quite busy in the afternoon. In the afternoon, i get to c how they cut a breast specimen. It was done by a doctor. Most of the bigger specimen like breast specimen r done by the doctors. When i first looked at it, the fats portion looks like cheese especially those melted cheese but harden after some time. But it's more organised than normal melted cheese since it's a tissue. I not purposedly relate these tissues to food but somehow it always manage to link to food. I guess i too hungry after work bah. ^_^ Too bad i didn't get to c how the large intestine was cut on tuesday. The bag tat it was contain in it's quite big so i tink maybe the specimen is like the whole of the large intestine or most of it. If it was placed to next some other intestine i tink i won't be able to differentiate. Next wk i'll be goin over to urinanalysis section. Heard frm Sue Sue it's like only busy in the morning n afternoon like nothing to do. Hope nxt wk can be as interesting as this wk.

First day at CGH.
Today's the first day of work at CGH. Met the rest(Andrea, Kai Lin n Sue Sue) at A&E entrance. Discovered tat i wear the most formal. Shld haf slack a bit. Went to adminstration office to ask the directions to the lab. But somehow the ppl treat us like invisible then we call Mr Tan, who is in charge of us, to ask for directions. Then we went to B1 n it's like very quiet then the exact place we were not sure. Wat's scary is the door can open towards us even though we're standing quite far away. Somemore mortuary is on the same floor. Finally met Mr Tan then he haf to like settle something n we stand in his office for like 30 minutes. Then we were briefed by Mr Chan, the lab manager, abt basic rules n stuff. We had a tour ard the place n i feel it doesn't look like a lab. Cos it's like connected to other rooms n the lab itself is not a room by itself. The exception is the histopathology lab as it's separated frm the rest. After tat we were divided into different departments. For my first wk i got histopathology. Got shown ard the place but did not c any body parts. Start by reading the safety manual but didn't get to finish. Was told to help arrange the slides. Completed half way n then went for lunch. Realised i was the only 1 tat went for lunch at 12. No choice but to eat alone. Went back arrange the slides. Then put some slides in the oven to dry it. As i haf nothing to do, i ask Irene(one of the staff) wat can i do. She ask me to fold some filter paper n put in a box. Abt 30 minutes later, my job was switched to labelling casette(a small holder tat holds small tissues). Finished abt half a box when it was 5. Finally time to go home. Hope tml got do other things tat it's something new. Gonna wear sports shoes tml. The shoes i wear today like haf not enuff grip n i keep slipping. Especially in the histopathology lab as there's some wax on the floor. N then give me blisters on both my small toes. Dunno whether to wear jeans or not, saw some np guys wearing jeans. Feel kind of uncomfortable in formal wear today.

Enjoy!!!.
Exams finally over le time to enjoy!!! Mon starting attachment, dunno how it's gonna be like. But i tink i'll be ok, still got ppl i noe working in the same place as me. ^_^ These few days keep goin out, thu went to tiong bahru plaza, fri went to kbox at cine then today went to orchard area again. I a bit tired but can hang out wif friends so it doesn't matter. Met Hui Min at somerset mrt then also supposed to meet Cindy but she was still sleeping at 1. So shiok ah? Later went to cine to eat lunch at some japanese restaurant. It was quite cheap abt $9 plus for a set n 1 ice lemon tea. The place had very few ppl n we even get a window view. But since it's at orchard, only can c the roads. A bit scary for those afraid of heights cos once the glass break it's bye-bye. After tat we walked ard many places. Even went to opera gallery at taka. I mus say tat some of the paintings were quite nice tat it looked so much like a photograph. But 1 painting is not cheap, cost abt at least $20000 onwards. Then i saw a girl wif an unique tattoo. She was wearing a short tank top n she had a tattoo at her lower back. It was a barcode. I have never seen any1 wif barcode as a tattoo before so i was like tinking since my sch the library system allows anything wif barcode to go thru so maybe tat barcode tattoo also can work? Later met Cindy then we get something to eat at taka basement. Then met Kah Lin at orchard mrt n Hui Min decided to leave first. Walked ard again then met Siew Ting at far east plaza. Got shocked at her hairstyle. It was like long at the back n overall it's like shaggy n messy. I tink would looked better if she tidied a bit then do some highlighting. Went to lido to watch The Pacifier. Quite funny n the baby is quite cute. The only bad thing was we sat at the second row frm the screen. Tml goin to tm wif Siew Chen, goin to find some formal top for my attachment.

I wish i didn't haf to hear tis while i'm still having exams but it seems like B. Yang had finished marking pathology exam papers. Got 4 ppl jus scrapped thru n 1 person dunno whether can make it or not. Haf to discuss wif board of directors to decide tat person's fate. I hope tat person is not me n now i'm so scared. Dunno can focus on studying haematology later or not...

Halfway through....
Left 2 more exams, somehow feels more at ease now tat patho exam is over. Can't say i do very well but i tink is useless if i keep worrying abt it, there's nothing i can do abt it. I'll worry when getting the results. All is now in the hands of the lecturers n god. Recently watched a new anime on Central, Shaman King at 11.30pm frm wed to fri. The storyline not bad, tink i'll be watching it for quite a while. It's abt ppl who can c ghosts n get them to possess their body. These ppl r called shaman. When the ghost possess their body, they can control their body. So like even they dunno how to fight, the ghost can help to fight using their body. Overall quite nice but i wish the graphics could be better cos it looks like the type of anime tat is more suitable for younger generation. I tink i haf a kind of preference for anime, i tend to like anime tat involves supernatural stuff, fighting n getting powers tat sort of thing(maybe i like violence?). Exceptions r Fruit Basket n Ranma 1/2, i tink the story is quite nice even though they dun really fit the above category. Then i dun like anime like Gundam Seed n Last Exile or anything tat dealts wif a lot machinery, robots n futuristic stuff. Even a lot of ppl say it is nice, it jus dun appeal to me. Maybe tat's y i dun watch Star Wars or Star Trek even if they haf nice graphics. I guess i won't be able to survive well in the future when the world is dominated by machinery n robots.

1 down 3 to go....
Jus finish A&P exam, tink i write too little but overall i tink still ok. But i tink i'm being fooled to study the textbook. Most of the stuff tat comes out came frm the notes. Grr... Somemore Dr Elangovan say study the textbook. Shld haf stick to the way i used to study. Nxt exam is pathology... 0% confidence. The notes i copied i tink is not enuff to answer the essay questions then the textbook is so hard to understand. Hope he looked out for points more than length. I want to watch tv but i tink only after exams then can watch as much as i like. Anyone free frm 14 to 17 Apr? Haf to enjoy before goin for attachment ^_^
